By definition, a REALTOR® is a licensed professional who represents buyers or sellers in real estate transactions and is a member of the National Association of REALTORS®. You may be wondering what exactly a real estate agent does in a typical day. We will give you a few ideas.
First off, there is no such thing as a typical day, each day is absolutely unique. Agents meet new people, see new places, and respond to the changing needs of buyers and sellers. It’s truly a fast-paced career with fun, excitement and the occasional challenge thrown in for good measure. Typically, they are always on the move and strive to be available to help clients in their real estate transaction journey.
Even with the variation in day-to-day work, there are numerous tasks that most agents do on a regular basis. The following represents what a day in the life of a real estate agent might look like.
Administrative Tasks
- Respond to texts, emails, and phone calls
- Process offers, counteroffers, listing agreements and other real estate documents
- Coordinate appointments, showings, open houses, and meetings
- Create and distribute flyers, newsletters, listings, and other promotional materials
- Create and monitor their operational budgets
- Develop marketing plans for listings
- Update client databases
- Research listings to develop comparative market analysis reports
- Update websites and social media profiles
- Lead generation and prospecting
Because these tasks can be very time consuming, many agents hire an assistant to allow them to leverage their time more effectively and be more productive.
Working with Buyers or Sellers
Considered the “meat” of their work, a good portion of an Agent’s Day is often spent working directly with or on behalf of clients and helping them navigate a complex process of buying and/or selling property. Tasks are based on which side of the real estate transaction they represent. At the Mama Bear Team, there are over 200 things we do for our clients in each and every transaction.
Hosting Events
In addition to the day-to-day tasks, there’s no better way to pay it forward and show the community how much an agent cares than by hosting an event. Being involved with charity events, supporting causes, and participating in neighborhood outings are impactful ways to demonstrate company culture and commitment to the community, while connecting with others.
Career Development / Education
Real estate agents must be licensed in the state where they do business, and they are required to earn continuing education credits to maintain an active license status. Although earning and maintaining a license, certification, or designation isn’t part of an agent’s daily schedule, it is part of an overall plan to improve their skills, proficiency, knowledge, and value to their clients.
The Bottom Line
Being a real estate agent can be a challenging and fulfilling career. They get to help you find the home of your dreams or assist you in expanding your investment portfolio. They will work closely with you, get to know you on a personal level and understand all your wants, needs, and goals. They will build relationships and be someone who will be there for you in the long run.
