Whether you’re looking to sell soon or simply want to improve the value of your Metro Denver home, curb appeal matters. But maintaining good curb appeal can be challenging during the winter, as plants aren’t usually at their best.
However, that doesn’t mean you can’t get the yard of your dreams during the fall and winter. If you aren’t sure where to begin, here are some tips.
Rake Up Leaves Regularly
Debris in your yard automatically makes your lawn seem dirty and disheveled. Ideally, you want to rake up leaves as regularly as possible. Not only will it clean up your property, but it also lets you scoop up the leaves before they start to decay, making the job easier.
Add Evergreen Plants
While many plants lose leaves during winter, some are just as vibrant during colder months as they are during the height of summer. You can improve your curb appeal during fall and winter by adding some evergreen plants to your landscaping. Plus, you won’t have as many leaves to rake up, reducing the amount of work it takes to maintain a pristine lawn.
Different regions in the United States are usually better for certain kinds of plants, so you want to consider that when selecting ones to add to your yard. However, if you aren’t sure where to begin, here are some plants worth considering:
Avoid Treading Through Snow
If you want to keep your yard looking nice after a snowfall, try to avoid treading across your lawn for as long as possible. When you trek across the snow, dirt and debris get mixed in, leaving discolored spots on your lawn.
After a snowfall, clear off your walkway and stick to that path when crossing your yard. That way, your lawn looks pristine longer, something that could be crucial if you have showings on your schedule and want a faster sale.
Try Turf Colorant for a Green Lawn
While turf colorant is more typical when managing sports fields, that doesn’t mean you can’t use it at home. Essentially, turf colorants dye your lawn, turning dormant grass green until the colorant fades.
If you didn’t have a chance to take listing photos before your grass lost its vibrant coloring, turf colorant could be the answer. Additionally, if you maintain it properly, it can enhance your curb appeal long-term.
Use Holiday Decorations Strategically
Holiday decorations can boost your curb appeal, making your home seem festive and welcoming. However, it’s essential to realize that not everyone celebrates the same holidays. As a result, some buyers may not appreciate your seasonal décor if it’s religious.
Similarly, decorations that appeal to children may turn off buyers that don’t have kids. They may worry that the children have harmed the property in some fashion, making them less interested in buying.
If you’re trying to sell, keep your outdoor holiday decorations to a minimum. Limiting yourself to just some holiday lights and a seasonal wreath on the door can be a great option. It adds a bit of flair while staying subtle.
Hire a Landscape Designer
If you want to make sure that your yard stands out, hiring a landscape designer could be your best bet. If you choose a freelance designer instead of an agency, you can also keep the total cost down. Head to online job boards to find candidates. Then, read reviews, examine their experience, and find out about costs to see which one will best meet your needs.
