On today’s Tales of a Colorado Traveler, I head to Sunny Southern California to visit friends. We spent a lot of time looking at landmarks and checking out the famous homes. I thought it would be fun to look up their value and what you might get if you were looking to purchase.
The 1970’s sitcom, The Brady Bunch, was an iconic home from my childhood. This lovely home has recently been renovated, thanks to HGTV and the Brady Bunch kids (who are all now in their 60’s and 70’s). They redesigned the inside to look just like the tv series. Fun fact: it was a ranch-style home, not a 2 story. When they renovated it, they popped it up to be a two-story. It is 5 bedrooms, 5 baths and 5140 square feet with an estimated value of almost $4.5 Million Dollars. Although recently purchased and not on the market, there is a very steady security presence to keep people from coming up to the home and looking in the windows.
We drove around some of the ritziest homes in LA and even took a quick tour of Beverly Hills and Bel Aire. One of my favorite homes was one of Lucille Ball’s homes. This home is a 6 bedroom, 8 bath, 7499 square foot home in Beverly Hills with a current estimated value of $13 Million.
So, my curiosity got the best of me, and I was wondering what the comparison would be between homes in Denver and homes in LA. So, I looked around and this is what I found:
The median price of a home in Denver is $685,000. For that here you can get a nice home in Highlands Ranch, about 2000 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 3 baths and a 2-car garage.
In Sherman Oaks, that price will get you a 2 bedroom, 2 bath, 1200 square foot Condo.
The grass may be greener in Southern California, but you definitely get more for your money here in Colorado!
